What is cloud hosting?
Cloud Computing is a broad term that encompasses the use of resources, software or physical, via an Internet connection, the Cloud, avoiding the end customer the costs associated with physical infrastructures and their maintenance (e. g. data centers, servers) and often but not always offering billing related to the actual use of resources.
Cloud Computing is a very complete range of services. Indeed, there are a large number of types of cloud computing, giving access to more or less possibilities. IaaaS, SaaS, PaaS, NaaS, WaaS, DaaS, STaaS.
When we talk about Cloud solutions in web hosting or application hosting, we most often talk about IaaS or PaaS solutions, respectively Infrastructure as a Service and Plateform as a Service, which can be translated as : Infrastructure or platform as a service.
Simply put, if you choose a PaaS Cloud solution, you will have all the services and software administered by your host. On the other hand, when choosing the use of Cloud IaaS, your host provides the hardware (or a virtual space) and it is up to you to administer this machine or virtualization. It is therefore easy to compare PaaS cloud solutions to a VPS (or dedicated) manager server and IaaaS cloud solutions to non-manager VPS (or dedicated) servers.
We also often talk about Cloud Backup at that time it is STaaS for Storage as a service which consists in backing up your data or that of your company on a server of the host that provides you with storage space for your files (you will find these offers in our Backup comparison).
